Europe China Institute opens Academic Center in Chengdu, China
Nyenrode's Europe China Institute is opening its first academic center in China on the campus of the Nordic International Management Institute in the Xindu district in Chengdu. The facilities there consist of classrooms, offices and student apartments. The aims of the center are to support Dutch businesses in their China-related education requirements, to start up executive business courses together with Chinese academic institutes and to support Nyenrode's students and researchers with their essays and dissertations.
Co-operation with University of East Anglia
More news from the international front. Nyenrode reached an agreement with the University of East Anglia. This means Nyenrode will have its own space in the heart of the City of London. The first joint project is a Master program in Diplomacy and Business.
Middle East - North Africa Trade Dinner a Great Success
On the evening of 19 January 2011, Nyenrode's international department and the Netherlands Council for Trade Promotion organized the second Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Trade Dinner. This year the event was held in Sociëteit de Witte in The Hague and coincided with a meeting of Dutch ambassadors. The dinner was attended by representatives of Dutch businesses active in the MENA region, the Dutch ambassadors to the Arab world, ambassadors of Arabic-speaking countries in the Netherlands and senior representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation. A select group of MSc and International MBA students interested in the MENA region also took part in the event. During the event, Prof. Dr. Desiree van Gorp presented the results of her study on trade with, and investment in, the MENA region. She carried out this study for the World Bank in cooperation with the Netherlands Council for Trade Promotion.
Nyenrode Student Team takes part in Hult Global Case Challenge
A team of Nyenrode MSc and International MBA students has been selected to take part in the Hult Global Case Challenge in London. The team will compete with representatives of business schools from all over Europe to tackle the problem of providing the world with clean water. This second annual Hult Global Case Challenge was organized in partnership with Water.org. Regional competitions will take place on 5 March 2011 in five of the world's major cities: Boston, San Francisco, Dubai, London and Shanghai. The winning team from each regional event will get the chance to take part in an all expenses-paid world final in New York on 28 April 2011. New Executive MBA in Public & Private
The new MBA course in the Public & Private business sectors will begin in September 2011. This program, which is modular in structure, aims to close the gap between the cultures of the public and private sectors. The course is intended for participants from the private sector, the government and 'hybrid organizations' such as hospitals, housing corporations and NGOs. Such organizations are often subject to conflicting values (task-oriented versus market-oriented approaches). This program is drawn up after thorough consultation with important players in the Government and the market. MSc in Management Students elect Professors of the Year
MSc in Management Students have elected the Professors of the Year. Drs. Rens Cappon (General Management), Prof. Dr. ir. Kitty Koelemeijer (Marketing Management) and Drs. Ed Sprokholt (Financial Management) were elected as Professor of the Year.

The number of participants in the Modular MBA in Food & Finance (formerly 'NyVU') has tripled over the last three years. About 180 participants will take 350 modules this academic year.

New Class of MSc in Management Students Get to Grips with Entrepreneurship
The new MSc in Management class has begun tackling the subject of entrepreneurship. Serial entrepreneur Jim Halfens (Sinq and Juridische Snelweg) was the first guest speaker and several other Nyenrode entrepreneurs will deliver guest lectures in the near future. During the course the students work in teams and one of their tasks will be to find a Nyenrode alumnus to act as their coach.
Mijntje Lückerath presents National Supervisory Directors Survey
The National Supervisory Directors Survey was presented on 20 January 2011. The co-author of this annual survey, which is carried out by Erasmus University, is Prof. Dr. Mijntje Lückerath, professor of Corporate Governance at Nyenrode. Among other things, the survey shows that supervisory directors want to communicate better and with more awareness. Over 400 supervisory directors took part in the survey. Profile (in Dutch).
Collection of Essays 'OVER BRUGGEN' Presented to Hans Kuijl
On 17 December 2010, Prof. Dr. Hans Kuijl RA stepped down as professor of the University of Leiden. To mark the occasion, he was presented with a collection of essays with the title 'OVER BRUGGEN' (About Bridges). The editors are Dick van Offeren, Tim Verdoes and Joop Witjes, all three of whom are connected with the Nyenrode School of Accountancy & Controlling in different functions. Gérard Kampschöer, ex-program director of NIVRA-Nyenrode Gert Karreman, Henk Langendijk and Marcel Pheijffer also contributed to the collection.  Hans Galesloot of Repro Department Retires Hans Galesloot of the repro department, a familiar face to many of us, has retired after 42 years with Nyenrode. Nyenrode thanks Hans for his many years of loyal service.
