Summit Class to raise funds for MS Research
A group of Nyenrode alumni were preparing to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro when one of them, Niels van Buren, was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Niels' life has changed but his intention to climb the mountain has not. As a result of this news, the preparations for Kilimanjaro turned into more than just a climb. It was transformed into a desire to make a difference! The group's response to the bad news was to extend the goal beyond simply reaching the summit of Kilimanjaro by simultaneously trying to raise 50,000 Euros for MS Research.

As part of the fund raising, MS Research, Nyenrode and the Summit Foundation are organizing the Summit Class on November 10th. Professors Fred Lachotzki, Henry Robben and Dennis Vink will team up with several interesting guest speakers from the business world. The theme of the summit class is "Make the impossible possible!" In several classes, an 'impossible to solve' business situation will be presented. The speakers will combine insights from theory and practice and elaborate on how the companies involved actually dealt with and solved the seemingly impossible task they faced at the time. It's a great way to learn best case practices so register now at www.mission-summit.nl. All donations will be put towards the MS Research foundation, which supports all those who suffer from MS today. More information

Young Bilderberg Conference 2011
The sixth Young Bilderberg Conference was held at Nyenrode on September 1st. Facilitated by Sven Kockelmann, the participants tackled the theme "Sustainable enterprise: how does a business want to be judged?" The question was derived from the 'New Leadership Charter': a vision of enterprise based on diversity, morality and sustainability that was drawn up in 2010 by members of the Young Bilderberg Conference. The Young Bilderberg Conference aims to provide a stimulus and a source of inspiration for the development of innovative leadership. It offers a closed platform to the upcoming generation of business leaders and decision-makers to jointly discuss the theme of innovative leadership, concretize it and thus promote it. You can read a report (in Dutch) on the meeting.

Female Board Index 2011: Again, Slight Increase in Number of Women at the Top
Once again, there has been a slight increase in the number of women at the top. This is shown by 'The Dutch Female Board Index 2011' by Prof. Dr. Mijntje Lückerath-Rovers, Professor of Corporate Governance at Nyenrode and also associated with the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. The total number of women on the boards of the 97 quoted public limited companies (Naamloze Vennootschappen, NVs) has increased by five. Sculptor Artist Kortekaas presents Worldwide Leadership Initiative
On October 11th, sculptor Pieter Kortekaas and Erik Huis, entrepreneur and alumnus, presented the All-Global Movement initiative at Nyenrode. Kortekaas is the creator of the statues that will be gradually unveiled by a variety of stakeholder groups during this anniversary year. Kortekaas is the designer and architect of the All-Global Movement. The All-Global Movement is an initiative that focuses on conscious leadership and conscious entrepreneurship so it fits in seamlessly with Nyenrode's trinity: Leadership, Entrepreneurship and Stewardship. At carefully selected locations in the world, centers of excellence will be esablished in which the ideas of conscious leadership and conscious entrepreneurship will be taught and experienced. The underlying thought is that whoever is aware of himself is also more aware of his environment and of his role of leader or entrepreneur in the constantly changing business world. Nyenrode will serve as a springboard for this international project.

Nyenrode appoints University Carilloneur
Nyenrode has officially appointed Jan Willem Achterkamp to the position of University Carilloneur. In this capacity, Achterkamp will regularly play the unique carillon at events at Nyenrode. Over the years, Achterkamp has also composed a variety of Nyenrode suites. He has recently composed music for the statues of artist Pieter Kortekaas, which will be unveiled on the campus in the course of the year. De Vermogensmediair is the first independent asset management intermediary in the Netherlands. They provide independent advice to retail investors, foundations and entrepreneurs looking for a first- class asset manager or private bank. Unique 19th-century Medallion found at Nyenrode
Gert Immerzeel, Nyenrode's estate manager, recently made a remarkable find. Using his metal detector on the estate, he discovered a 4-centimetre, bronze medallion from the 19th century. The medallion was once awarded by the "Association for the Promotion of Manufacturing and Handcrafts in the Netherlands". Associations such as these frequently organized excursions and exhibitions in connection with enterprise and industry, and attempted to contribute to the improvement of working conditions and to education. They also initiated prize competitions in which people submitted solutions for all kinds of practical, industrial issues. The medallion was therefore awarded to the person with the most innovative and enterprising idea, an historic award that fits in perfectly with Nyenrode's current aims and ethos.
