From February 1st, 2012, Nyenrode alumni will receive a discount when participating in Nyenrode programs. This discount is intended to promote the university's lifelong learning principle. It applies to alumni who are entitled to VCV membership and who enroll for a program from this date onwards. The discount amounts to 10% for non-members of the VCV and 15% for VCV members. It is non-transferable and is valid, in principle, for all Nyenrode degree and executive programs with open enrolment. The discount is not applicable to in-company programs or if some other (company) discount already applies to the program. Furthermore, it only relates to the costs of the program itself. See a Performance of 'De Prooi' thanks to the Nyenrode Corporate Governance Institute
The Nyenrode Corporate Governance Institute is offering its alumni and business friends the opportunity to attend a performance of 'De Prooi'. The play will be performed on March 29th, 2012, (and other days) by the Nationale Toneel theatre company in the Koninklijke Schouwburg in The Hague. Prof. Dr. Mijntje Luckerath writes about the play: "In 'De Prooi', Jeroen Smit gave an insight into the culture in the ABN AMRO boardroom. This was (and remains) a valuable addition to theory formation on the subject of Corporate Governance. The story appeals to the imagination so much that the Nationale Toneel's performance is a 'must-see' for everyone with an interest in good corporate governance." National Survey of Supervisory Directors 2012
On January 19th, 2012, Prof. Dr. Mijntje Lückerath, Professor of Corporate Governance and Director of the Nyenrode Corporate Governance Institute, and Prof. Dr. Auke de Bos (Erasmus University Rotterdam) presented the National Survey of Supervisory Directors 2012. The survey's special theme this year was 'self-evaluation'. The first copy of the survey was presented to Stef Blok, chairman of the VVD parliamentary party in the Dutch House of Representatives, during the National Day of Supervisory Directors and Governors. On the subject of self-evaluation by the Board, it was recommended that self-evaluation should be supervised at least once every three years by an external expert, with particular attention to the functioning of the chairman of the Supervisory Board. Further research is also required as regards the profile of this external expert and the nature of his or her involvement. The survey also shows that governors have devoted rather less time to their governance function over the past year (up to 18% less in the case of supervisory directors of quoted companies) and have earned less. Over 40% of them are dissatisfied with the remuneration, which comes to an average of € 15,000 per annum and amounts to an average of € 96 per hour. The full report (in Dutch) is available here.

Unveiling of Anniversary Sculptures on Campus
During a meeting of the Stichtse Vecht Entrepreneurs' Association (OSV) at Nyenrode on February 4th 2012, a sculpture group with the title of 'Tulpenvazen' (tulip vases) was unveiled. The group is one of five works of art that sculptor Pieter Kortekaas has loaned to Nyenrode for its anniversary. Kortekaas's works of art are a metaphor for the new direction in leadership and entrepreneurship. All the sculpture groups will be unveiled in the course of the anniversary year. Each unveiling will be attended by a different group of Nyenrode stakeholders. The unveilings are always connected to special anniversary activities.

During the meeting of the Stichtse Vecht Entrepreneurs' Association, MSc in Management students who have performed assignments with companies connected with the OSV gave an account of their findings. Lecturer Edgar Karssing also discussed a number of dilemmas entrepreneurs face. The university's carilloneur performed his own composition in honor of the work of art and explained about this composition and the Nyenrode carillon.

Start of One Million Solutions Campaign
At the end of January "One Million Snowflakes", an initiative of which Nyenrode is one of the founding 'snowflakes', started with an internet campaign. As part of this, "One Million Solutions" is an initiative to generate a snowball effect by means of short films on the Internet. The films contain ideas for businesses on how the creation of economic value and the creation of social value can reinforce each other. This campaign was officially opened by the famous TED speaker Simon Sinek, originator of the 'Start with Why' concept. The aim of the One Million Solutions campaign is to mobilize the collective intellectual capacity of professionals throughout the world. See here for the short films.

One Million Snowflakes Event on 26 April
The first One Million Snowflakes event will take place at Nyenrode on Thursday April 26th, 2012. The theme of this event is 'Snowball leadership: co-creating a movement of meaning'. Lectures will be given by some renowned speakers in the field of leadership, such as Ricardo Semler and Jagdish Parikh. Registration fees for the event will be donated to the charity Save the Children and used to facilitate the education of children in developing countries. 'One Million Snowflakes' is a collaborative venture of 'professionals with a heart' who believe in a better world and have decided to help that world make itself a reality. They do this by gathering the value that they represent for each other into a big snowball. This is based on the concept that a single snowflake may have little impact, but a million snowflakes together can change the world. Nyenrode is one of the 'founding snowflakes' in this initiative.
