Nyenrode and PwC create Chair for Strategic Rewards Policy
Nyenrode and PwC have established a chair for strategic rewards policy. Prof. Dr. Gijs van Bussel of PwC will hold the chair that is linked to the new, post-master Executive Reward program. This new program on the subject of strategic rewards policy is highly topical because the rewards policies of companies are currently under the spotlight. The post-master Executive Reward program is a cooperative venture of Nyenrode and PwC. The first course will start in March 2012. The program is mainly designed for senior HR professionals and board members with responsibility for HR matters. The subjects covered include sustainable rewards policy, corporate governance, the position of the HR function and People Performance Management. BNR Nyenrode Debate: Social media - Trending topics for your business
On January 12th, BNR and Nyenrode organized a debate on the added value of social media for business. This covered questions such as 'Is it a good idea to maintain strict guidelines for employees on Twitter?', 'Are companies allowed to monitor their employees' social media behavoir?' and 'Have companies missed the boat if they do not already have a social media plan?' The panel included Peter Kerkhof, Professor of Customer Media at the University of Amsterdam and at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Steven Jongeneel, founder of Social Embassy, Danny Mekic, internet expert and entrepreneur, Els de Wind, Van Doorne, and Paskal van Lomm, Manager Online Sales, Marketing & Channel Development at Essent. The event was hosted by BNR's Maarten Bouwhuis. A Twitter fountain showed the responses from the audience. In the afternoon, the event reached the 6th place in the Dutch Twitter trending topics rankings. The panel debate was aired on radio. Independent System for Auditing and Certification of Integrity Management
Together with private parties and regulatory as well as certifying organizations, Prof. Dr. Ronald Jeurissen, Professor of Business Ethics at Nyenrode, has developed a system for auditing and certifying the integrity management of organizations: the 'Stimuleringskader Integere Organisatie' (Framework for Stimulating Organizational Integrity, SIO). The framework of standards associated with the certification is the responsibility of the independent SIO Foundation while the quality of the standard will be monitored by an independent panel of experts. Various organizations have already shown an interest in SIO certification. Later in 2012, a seminar on auditing and certifying integrity management where the SIO standard will be presented, will be held at Nyenrode. Profile Prof. Dr. Jeurissen

Ivo de Loo to make Documentary on ICT and the Management of Accountants/Controllers
Ivo de Loo is a senior lecturer in Methods and Methodology of Accountancy & Controlling at the university. Together with Alan Lowe of the Aston Business School in Birmingham, he is going to make a documentary on the influence of ICT developments on the role and management of accountants/controllers in organizations, and the role the latter play in selecting and setting up ICT applications. For this purpose they have received a grant of £ 15,000 from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. The documentary is intended to stimulate the debate about the role of management accountants/controllers in organizations and contribute to the ongoing professionalization of ICAEW members. The Customer at the Helm
In the digital world, consumers are acquiring more and more power thanks to the growing influence of social media and crowdsourcing. This Nyenrode & RTL Z Masterclass, held on January 10th, examined what these developments mean for organizations, marketing strategies, supply chain policy and style of leadership. The Masterclass was co-organized by the management advice consultancy Berenschot.

Growth Opportunities for Entrepreneurs
The next Nyenrode & RTL Z Masterclass, entitled 'Growth Opportunities for Entrepreneurs', will be held on February 14th. EVMI & Nyenrode Food Top 100 edition 2011
On February 2nd 2012, the Food Top 100 will be held at Nyenrode in cooperation with the Eisma Media Group. As before, the 2011 edition of the Food Top 100 has been drawn up and verified by Onno van Bekkum (Coop Champions) with assistance from Nyenrode and the EVMI trade magazine. The list has been drawn up on the basis of turnover data, with supplementary criteria such as sustainability, innovative power and the percentage of women in top positions. Conference on Enhancing Flexibility in the Knowledge Market
On February 15th, the Vereniging Nyenrode Interim Management Circle will stage a conference at Nyenrode on enhancing flexibility in the knowledge market. The new interplay of demand and supply in the public and private sector markets will be introduced by keynote speakers Alexander Rinnooy Kan (Chairman of SER), Chetan Sharma (a leading economist, journalist and researcher from India) and Han van der Zee (CPB). The theme will also be discussed in more detail in eight parallel sessions led by professors from Nyenrode such as Jacques Reijniers, Frank Kwakman and Toon Bullens. Nyenrode International MBA students awarded in MoC course
Again, Nyenrode International MBA students obtained a second place in the Harvard Microeconomics of Competitiveness (MoC) course competition. The IMBA 2010-11 group 7, including Amy Wang, Harsha Imrapur, Maarten Kalushe and Sophia Bai did research on the Taiwan Bicycle Cluster. They concluded that the Taiwanese Government should loosen market labor regulations, revise the tax system and improve the judicial system. Furthermore, they suggested strategic initiatives to sharpen promotion and branding of Taiwan as a bicycle paradise. The MoC course was developed by Professor Michael Porter and his colleagues at the Harvard Business School. Each year about 200 assignments are evaluated by the Harvard Business School team. http://www.nyenrode.nl/imba

Discover Lecturing Program
PETRA is a European collaborative network bringing together executives who are interested in teaching and business schools that want to enrich their class rooms and curricula with up-to-date business practice. PETRA organizes the Discover Learning Program to prepare executives for case-based teaching in academic courses. Nyenrode has a partnership with the PETRA Network. In this Discover Learning Program participants learn practical lecturing techniques, develop their own case and are coached when they deliver two guest lectures at different European business schools. The program is designed for successful senior managers with at least 20 years of relevant work experience. The program facilitates the kind of practice-oriented teaching that Nyenrode is looking for. Inaugural Lecture by Willem van Rhenen: Engagement translates into Practice
On December 19th, Prof. Dr. Willem van Rhenen delivered his inaugural lecture upon officially accepting the position of Professor of Engagement & Productivity. In his lecture, he presented the view that organizations need a practical way to energize and engage employees, and maintain this attitude, in these times of recession. As a professor, Van Rhenen will seek to translate the academic concept of 'engagement' into a practical, day-to-day manifestation. As well as being a professor he is the Chief Medical Officer at the HR service provider 365. This company was instrumental in setting up the Chair. The Chair of Engagement & Productivity forms part of the Center for HRM, Organization and Management Effectiveness (Chrome). You can read more (in Dutch) here.

Book by Edgar Karssing on Long List for 'Management Book of the Year 2012'
Edgar Karssing's book 'De oplossing is het probleem niet' (The Solution is not the Problem) is in the running for the title of 'Management Book of the Year 2012'. The jury evaluated about 250 books and the book is on the long list with 46 others. The short list for the competition will be announced on January 23rd. One Million Snowflakes Event on April 26th
The first One Million Snowflakes event will be held at Nyenrode on Thursday April 26th. The theme of this event is 'Snowball leadership: creating a movement to achieve change'. During the event lectures will be given by some renowned speakers in the field of leadership, such as Ricardo Semler and Jagdish Parikh. Registration fees for the event will be donated to the charity Save the Children and used to facilitate the education of children in developing countries. 'One Million Snowflakes' is a collaborative venture of 'professionals with a heart' who believe in a better world and have decided to help that world make itself a reality. They do this by gathering the value that they represent for each other into a big snowball. This is based on the concept that a single snowflake may have little impact, but a million snowflakes together can change the world. Nyenrode is one of the 'founding snowflakes' in this initiative. Private investor blames bank for passive attitude and lack of knowledge
Many private investors blame their banks for passive attitude and lack of knowledge, a marketing research by 'De Vermogensmediair' (asset mediair) shows. In the view of many investors, banks do not act proactive regarding market developments (41%), they advise expensive funds of their own (25%) and do not communicate well (18%). Many investors indicate that they lost large amounts of money because their banks did not act while the indices dropped. For some the losses went up to 40% in just a few months time.
