Ferdy van Beest is Assistant Professor in Financial Accounting at the Centre for Financial Accounting & Reporting at Nyenrode Business University. In 2011, he obtained his doctoral degree at Radboud University with his thesis entitled: “Rules-based and principles-based accounting standards and earnings management.” He currently teaches Research in Financial Accounting, a research course for RA’s, Financial Accounting Theory and is a Master Thesis Supervisor. Amongst others he developed the research course for Master RA students and is involved in developing an English master.
During the period of his dissertation, Ferdy van Beest worked on several topics published in, forthcoming in, or still being worked at; contributing to national and international literature. Amongst others, these topics relate to the content of this dissertation, quality of financial reporting, or health insurance companies. The latter subject has gained attention on national radio and several newspapers as well. Furthermore, Ferdy van Beest presented his academic work at several prominent international conferences. His current research interest is in Financial Accounting: accounting standards, quality of financial reporting, and earnings management in particular.
Ferdy van Beest studied Business Administration (specialization in Financial Accounting) at the Radboud University in Nijmegen between 2000 and 2004 and graduated first-class (cum laude). During this same time period he also studied Accountancy at the University of Tilburg. After a short career working for a Big- 4 audit firm, Ferdy van Beest started working at the Radboud University from 2005 until 2011.
