Jaap Koelewijn (1956) studied general economics at VU University Amsterdam before obtaining his doctorate at the same institution with a thesis on business supervision of the banking industry. Mr. Koelewijn has held various research positions within the financial sector, including as a European financial markets stock analyst and asset manager at MeesPierson; head of strategy and research vice-president at IRIS (a joint subsidiary of Rabobank and Robeco); and research CEO at the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM).  In addition to his substantive expertise, Mr. Koelewijn has extensive experience both as a manager of professional teams and as an administrator.

Drawing on his scientific, financial and supervisory experience, Mr. Koelewijn started his own consultancy firm called ‘Financieel Denkwerk’ (Financial Brainwork) in 2000. Concentrating on financing- and investment-issues on the one hand, and on related regulations and integrity concerns on the other, Mr. Koelewijn’s main activities are carrying out research, offering well-founded advice and developing strategies for his clients.

As of April 1 2005, Mr. Koelewijn holds the position of lecturer of Corporate Governance at INHOLLAND University of Applied Sciences, while concerning himself with research and advising company boards. Meanwhile, he is a trainer for professionals, post-graduates, compliance officers, investment consultants and asset managers. He is a researcher for- and advisor to - large accountancy firms, financial institutions, law firms, the Public Prosecutor and supervisors. In addition, Mr. Koelewijn holds several positions on supervisory boards, assessment committees and administrative bodies, and regularly publishes articles – including for the Financieele Dagblad – and gives presentations.
