At the start of a research project, while carrying out the problem analysis and building the conceptual model, you will need to find and interpret academic and/or professional literature. Articles and books may be used to study concepts, theoretical notions, and theories and models, in order to build your own conceptual model (a so-called ‘synthesized model’). In addition, other uses can be made of this information, such as comparing and selecting the appropriate operationalisations (‘how to measure’), and analysis strategies.
The course provides an overview of the major search methods, the analytical (critical) use of articles and books, and explains the procedures to arrive at a synthesized conceptual model, suitable for your study.
