Borrowing terms for external members

Students and staff working and studying at Nyenrode are automatically members of the library. They have priority for all library services. However, individuals who do not or who no longer fall into these categories but who because of work or study fall within the aims of Nyenrode, may register as a member of the library. A yearly membership fee is charged (see the tariffs on the library website). The library is part of a private institution and the librarian retains the rights to refuse membership to individuals.
Membership includes borrowing books, use of reference materials and access to some of the online information sources in the library. External members do not have access to Nyenrode theses.
Businesses who wish to join as corporate members should contact the librarian, as different terms and conditions apply.

BORROWING TERMS
The library collection includes books, journals, company annual reports, and reference books. Books may be borrowed. Journals, reference books and annual reports can be referred to in the library, they may not be borrowed.
To borrow from the library you must become a member of the library. A yearly membership fee is charged; see the tariffs posted on the website of the library. You will receive a lending card which you must have with you to borrow books. To register as a member you will be required to show some identification, passport, driving licence or student card from another university or institute of higher education.
If you lose your lending card you should report it at the lending desk. A replacement of the lending card costs € 5,00.
You must inform us of any change of address.

External users may borrow up to 5 books for a period of four weeks.

You can ask for an extension on your borrowing time. This will be registered unless someone else has reserved the book. In that case the book must be returned immediately.
On the occasions that the library staff asks you to return the books before the expiry date you are expected to comply immediately.
You are responsible for the books you borrow and should ensure that they are returned on time. Returning books by post is at your own risk. Should you inadvertently lose any books please report the loss to the librarian immediately; you will be charged for replacing the book(s).
You are not allowed to lend library books registered in your name to others. Do not allow others to use your lending card. The library staff can ask for additional identification if there is any doubt as to ownership (You will be charged the fines incurred in your name!).
You must return or renew books on or before the expiry date stamped on the bookcard. Within a week of the expiry date you will receive the first reminder, the second one a week later and the third one two weeks later. The overdue fines are posted on the website of the library (see tariffs). In your own interest don’t let the fines get out of hand. Once you have returned your books and paid the fines, you can borrow some more.
Late or non-receipt of either or both of the reminders does not exempt you from fines incurred. Fines should be paid by PIN or Chippas at the lending desk. At the end of each term you will receive a bill for fines outstanding which should be settled with the Financial Department of Nyenrode Business Universiteit. Non payment of fines and non-return of books will result in termination of your membership.

PHOTOCOPY FACILITIES
Photocopy facilities are available. In all cases normal copyright restrictions apply.

INTER LIBRARY LOANS (ILL)
If a book or journal article is not available in the library, either in the ‘paper’ collection or through one of the online databases you have access to, the library staff can put the request through to other libraries. Please make sure all details of the publication are known. ILL requests usually take about one week; borrowing time allowed by supplying libraries varies. Charges brought by the supplying library will be passed on (see the list of library tariffs posted on the library website). External members may borrow up to 3 ILL books.

CODES OF BEHAVIOUR
Please remember that the library is a place for reflection and study. While talking is allowed voice levels should be kept low so as not to disturb other users. Use of mobile phones is not allowed. You are requested not to bring food and drinks into the library.

LOCKERS
Lockers are available in the cloak-room. A key can be obtained at the information desk in the library on presentation of your library/student card. The key has to be returned the same day before closing time.

The library cannot be held responsible for any damage to or loss of personal property.

For more details on the library collection and how to use it ask the library staff, they will be pleased to help. It is also useful to consult our website.
