STAP Budget

Study cost deduction becomes STAP Budget

As of 1 January 2022, study costs and educational expenses are no longer deductible. Instead, you can make use of a new educational grant scheme called the STAP (STimulering ArbeidsmarktPositie – Stimulation of Job Market Position) Budget.

What is the STAP Budget?

The STAP Budget is a personal development budget, with a maximum of €1,000. Nyenrode students and participants may also be eligible for this grant.

Who can apply for the STAP Budget?

  • You are between the ages of 18 and the state pension age.
  • You are employed, an entrepreneur, or currently out of work.
  • You are a citizen of the EU and have been insured for national insurance for at least six months in the period from two years and three months until three months before the calendar month in which you submit your application.
  • You are not eligible for a student loan, an educational expenses allowance or other public education funding (with the exception of Lifelong Learning Credit, see below).
  • You have not yet received a STAP budget grant this calendar year and there is still budget available.

How do you apply for the STAP Budget?

You apply for the budget you need with the UWV. Please note that you will need an enrolment certificate for your application. This certificate is issued when you enrol at Nyenrode. You have to upload the enrolment certificate yourself to the UWV website. Has your application been approved? The budget allocated will then be automatically deducted from your tuition fee by Nyenrode.

  • Every year, between 200,000 and 300,000 grants are awarded.
  • You can apply for the STAP budget at 6 specific moments, spread over the calendar year. Make sure you send in your application on time, as a limited number of grants can be awarded. Want to stay informed? Sign up for the UWV newsletter here.
  • Your study program must start at least 4 weeks after your grant application and within 3 months of the end of the appropriate 2-month application period.
  • If you apply for a STAP Budget for a full-time study program which may be covered by a student grant or educational expenses allowance, you must be over 30 years of age.
  • Do the costs of the program you want to use the STAP Budget for exceed €1,000? In that case, you may be eligible for a supplement from your employer (or from an R&D fund, the municipality or the UWV).
