About Nyenrode

Nyenrode Business University in Breukelen and the municipality of Stichtse Vecht are working closely together to facilitate the reception of Ukrainian refugees. Last week, preparations were made on the site of Nyenrode for the accommodation of families with children. As a result, 35 refugees who are currently staying in emergency accommodation, such as at the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht, can be assisted and accommodated in a quiet place. Some of them have already moved to the residential units on the site.

The Utrecht Safety Region has to accommodate 2,000 fleeing Ukrainians. All municipalities, including Stichtse Vecht, are doing their part. At Nyenrode, everything has been prepared to accommodate the refugee Ukrainians. The available residential units offer good facilities and the location is easily accessible by public transport.

Mayor Ap Reinders: “We are very happy about Nyenrode's offer and the collaboration that we are able to establish here. Nyenrode’s location is very suitable as a reception facility, since it offers plenty of space and the possibility to get some rest after the terrible hardships these people have had to endure. This is one of the great initiatives within our municipality to help refugees, and more refugees are arriving almost every day. This is heart-warming and it makes me proud.”

Chairman of the Board, Koen Becking, of Nyenrode Business University: “Providing a safe environment to these people, who have had to leave their homes and lives due to war, is our social responsibility. The initiatives and collaborations that have emerged among our employees and between organizations within the region in such a short time frame, show great commitment to the fate of these people. Through solid teamwork, many great things can be achieved quickly.”

Emergency accommodation

The municipality of Stichtse Vecht currently focuses mainly on emergency accommodation for the Ukrainian refugees. This means that the municipality is looking at possibilities to house refugees for a longer period of time. After all, it is not a realistic expectation for refugee Ukrainians to be able to return home soon. Direct emergency accommodation is currently offered regionally and nationally at central locations, such as at the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht. From there, refugees are accommodated at reception sites in the region. And now Nyenrode is one of those sites.

Private initiatives

Several dozens of refugees are also staying at private addresses in the municipality of Stichtse Vecht. Information is available at www.stichtsevecht.nl/oekraine. In Stichtse Vecht, all kinds of aid are offered.
