Biography

Dr. Tessa Coffeng is an Assistant Professor at the Center for Accounting, Auditing & Control. From an organizational psychological perspective, she conducts research in accountancy and regulatory practice and contributes to course development within the master’s program in Accountancy.

Alongside her work at Nyenrode, she serves as a Senior Supervision Officer in the Behavior & Culture team at the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM) and as a Board Member of Stichting Blikverruimers. In addition, Coffeng is an affiliated researcher at Utrecht University, due to the collaboration between the AFM and this university. 

Trained as a social and organizational psychologist, Coffeng earned her PhD at Utrecht University in 2022 on cognitive biases in supervision (‘Bias in supervision’). She has published in interdisciplinary journals such as Regulation & Governance and Management Decision, and has collaborated with researchers at the University of Queensland.

Coffeng is committed to bridging academic research and regulatory practice and aims to advance the professionalization of supervision, with particular attention to judgment and decision-making. She has previously served on the editorial board of Tijdschrift voor Toezicht (Journal for Supervision) and was a member of the Impact Committee of the Kurt Lewin Institute. In 2023, she was seconded by the AFM to the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA), where she contributed to the convergence of financial market supervision.
