Biography
Dr. Yulia Levashova is an Associate Professor at Nyenrode Business University, where she is part of Nyenrode’s Faculty Research Center for Entrepreneurship, Governance & Stewardship.
What drives Levashova is the intersection of rigorous academic research and real-world business and legal challenges. She is passionate about helping companies navigate the complex landscape of ESG compliance, corporate due diligence, dispute resolution and responsible investment. This combination of teaching, applied research, and advising businesses is what gives her energy. Levashova teaches across Nyenrode’s various programs, and takes pride in mentoring and supervising Master and PhD students whose thesis projects address pressing questions at the crossroads of law, business, and sustainability.
Her core expertise lies in international investment law, commercial arbitration, ESG regulation, and corporate due diligence. She has led and contributed to multidisciplinary and complex international research projects with businesses and international organizations, hereby addressing topics such as energy governance, biodiversity, sustainable use of natural resources, and evolving legal frameworks for responsible business conduct. Through her work, she has collaborated with leading international institutions including UNCTAD (contributing to the 2019 World Investment Report), UNECE and UNCITRAL.
Levashova is a member of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Commission on Arbitration and ADR, where she actively contributes to the work of the Dutch Commission. She is also a member of the ICC Commission on Corporate Responsibility and Anti-Corruption (Business Integrity). Levashova is a certified arbitrator and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (MCIArb). Since 2021, she has served as Director of the Dispute Prevention Program of the Asia Pacific FDI Network. She participates as an observer in UNCITRAL Working Group III on investor–State dispute settlement reform.
Levashova regularly organizes, speaks and moderates international conferences and events, including during Paris Arbitration Week and at United Nations forums. She has been a visiting scholar at the Napels University, the European University Institute, Ghent University, and the Max Planck Institute.
Levashova holds a Master’s degree in law from Utrecht University and obtained her PhD at Utrecht University in 2018. Her monograph, published in the Wolters Kluwer International Arbitration Law Library series, is widely cited in academic and arbitral practice. She is the author of numerous publications in international investment law, ESG, and dispute resolution.
