Drs. Betsy Heikoop-Geurts RA is a Lecturer and affiliated with the Center for Accounting, Auditing & Control. Heikoop-Geurts teaches a range of auditing courses, including Auditing Theory, Advanced Auditing, and Financial Auditing. In addition, she supervises master's theses and academic papers. She serves as coordinator of the Auditing Theory and Financial Auditing courses and is actively involved in the development of new post-master programs that integrate theory and practice across the three core disciplines of the accountancy curriculum. Heikoop-Geurts takes great pride in supporting students who pursue their professional and personal development while balancing demanding careers. While she enjoys designing new course series, she derives the most energy from interacting with students. Explaining complex theoretical models and seeing students gain new insights are among the most rewarding aspects of her work.
Heikoop-Geurts holds a Master's degree in Business Economics and completed a post-master program in Accountancy. She began her professional career at EY, where she worked as a Registered Accountant. Her combination of academic expertise and practical experience forms the foundation of her teaching approach, enabling her to continuously connect theory with the day-to-day realities of the auditing profession.
In addition to her academic responsibilities, Heikoop-Geurts serves in several supervisory and advisory roles. These positions allow her to bring current developments from professional practice into the classroom and help prepare students for the challenges and responsibilities of the accounting profession.
Heikoop-Geurts views Nyenrode’s core values of leadership, entrepreneurship, and stewardship as essential elements in the development of future accountants. She values the opportunities students are given to grow both professionally and personally throughout their studies. Her personal mission is to help each student reach their full potential by building on their individual strengths and development needs. In doing so, she contributes to the education of accountants who are not only technically proficient but also understand and embrace their responsibility to society.
