Biography

Drs. Jan-Carel Bast RO is a Lecturer and Course Coordinator for Administrative Information Management (Bestuurlijke Informatieverzorging, BIV) and is affiliated with the Center for Accounting, Auditing & Control.
Bast is responsible for the academic coordination of several courses in Administrative Information Management (BIV) and teaches within the BIV-BIS program. He is energized by interacting with students and encourages them to think critically and approach challenges from multiple perspectives. For Bast, one of the most rewarding aspects of teaching is seeing students develop their analytical skills and gain new insights that deepen their understanding of complex topics.
In addition to his work at Nyenrode, Bast serves as an Internal Auditor in higher education, specializing in IT auditing. His academic background includes studies in Administrative Information Management at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, a master's degree from Erasmus University Rotterdam, and a post-master qualification from the University of Amsterdam. Since 2007, he has been teaching at Nyenrode Business University.
Bast is also the author of several books on administrative organization, information management, and IT. His combination of practical experience, subject-matter expertise, and many years of teaching enables him to bridge the gap between academic theory and the real-world challenges faced by organizations.
The professional and personal development of students is central to Bast’s work. He believes in building strong connections with students and supporting them in their growth as future professionals. Through the development of educational programs and the delivery of engaging courses, he contributes to Nyenrode’s mission and core values of leadership, entrepreneurship, and stewardship. His personal mission is to help students become critical thinkers and responsible professionals who create value for both organizations and society.
