Nyenrode Scholarship Fund officially launched during lustrum

Scholarships can contribute to a more international, inclusive, and diverse study environment

On Saturday, June 4, Koen Becking, Rector Magnificus and Chairman of the Executive Board, as well as Elyas Razawi, former scholarship student of the BSc in Business Administration, officially launched the new Nyenrode Scholarship Fund. With a push of the red button, they gave the starting signal in a large tent on the estate during the lustrum festivities in honor of the 75th anniversary of Nyenrode Business University.

Nyenrode considers its social responsibility to educate students into responsible leaders. Scholarships are necessary in order to offer talented students, regardless of their financial means, the opportunity to study at Nyenrode. "With this fund, we can offer both Dutch and international talented students who do not have sufficient financial resources the opportunity to study at Nyenrode," said Koen Becking. At the launch, Elyas Razawi shared how important a scholarship has been for him in realizing his dreams. He came to the Netherlands as a child refugee from Afghanistan.

Diversity

Responsible leaders are best shaped in an international, inclusive, and diverse environment, according to Becking. "For this reason, we want to welcome to the university both Dutch and international students who come from different backgrounds with different experiences, knowledge, and insights, and hence, contributing to the diversity within Nyenrode."

Making a difference

Prior to the Nyenrode Scholarship Fund launch, the Rector addressed the representatives present of the alumni of the year 1958. "Together, you have already made 21 scholarships possible in the past fifteen years. Fantastic that you guys keep doing that!"

By pressing the red button, a video started playing in which students and scholarship donors of the year 1958 spoke. "It makes you realize that a scholarship really makes a difference in the lives of young talent! We are therefore incredibly happy with this fund and the first donations are already in," says Anouk Reitsma, fundraiser for Nyenrode Fund (Stichting Nyenrode Fonds, SNF).

Nyenrode Fund facilitates donors who wish to contribute to the fund and has a long tradition of providing scholarships to talented students who are unable to bear the (full) costs of their education. With the establishment of the Scholarship Fund, Nyenrode wishes to emphasize the importance of scholarships for students and to be more active in raising funds for them.
