    FAQ

Why is the tuition fee of the Impact MBA VAT free?

The tuition fee of the Impact MBA is VAT free, because Nyenrode Business University is registered in the Dutch CRKBO register (Central Register for Short Vocational Education). This allows recognised educational institutions in the Netherlands to offer qualifying programs without charging VAT. For participants, this means that no additional VAT is added to the tuition fee. The stated tuition fee of € 49.000 is therefore the total amount paid for the program. For international candidates and sponsoring employers, this provides greater clarity about the overall investment in the MBA. The VAT-free status is linked to Dutch educational quality and recognition requirements.

Is the MBA-degree of Impact MBA recognised in the Netherlands?

Yes. The Impact MBA at Nyenrode is officially accredited by the NVAO (Accreditation Organisation of the Netherlands and Flanders). This means the program meets the formal quality standards for higher education in the Netherlands. For participants, this provides assurance of the academic level, structure and overall quality of the MBA. An NVAO-accredited degree is recognised by employers and aligned with the Dutch higher education system. For professionals who want to build or continue their careers in the Netherlands, the NVAO accreditation confirms the credibility and recognised value of the MBA degree.

What does it mean if an MBA is Triple Crown accredited?

“Triple Crown accredited” refers to business schools that are accredited by the three leading international accreditation bodies: AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS. Only a small percentage of business schools worldwide hold this distinction. For MBA participants, Triple Crown accredited indicates that the program meets high international standards in areas such as curriculum quality, faculty expertise and learning outcomes. It also strengthens the global recognition of the MBA degree among employers and institutions. For students of the Impact MBA at Nyenrode, this means their degree is positioned within a globally respected framework, supporting international career opportunities and long-term professional credibility.

Why is accreditation important when choosing an MBA?

Accreditation is an important indicator of the quality, credibility and recognition of an MBA program. It shows that the program has been independently assessed and meets established academic and professional standards. For prospective students, accreditation provides assurance about the level of education, the relevance of the curriculum and the expertise of the faculty. It also plays a role in how the MBA degree is recognised by employers, both locally and internationally. When choosing an MBA, it is valuable to consider both national accreditation, such as NVAO in the Netherlands, and international recognition, such as being Triple Crown accredited. Together, these signal that the program meets high standards and is well positioned in both local and global contexts.

Is student housing difficult to find in the Netherlands for international students?

Yes. Due to the ongoing housing shortage in the Netherlands, finding student accommodation in cities such as Utrecht and Amsterdam can be highly competitive. By offering on-campus housing for full-time Impact MBA participants, Nyenrode helps international students secure comfortable accommodation on campus before starting their studies.

Does Nyenrode offer on-campus housing for international MBA students?

Yes. Full-time Impact MBA students have the opportunity to stay in furnished apartment-style accommodation on campus, including a private kitchenette and bathroom. In addition to the convenience of living on campus, the housing offer provides a more affordable alternative compared to rental prices in nearby cities such as Utrecht and Amsterdam, where student housing is often limited and expensive.

What skills will an MBA teach in today’s business world?

An MBA develops a broad set of skills that are essential in today’s complex and rapidly changing business environment. These include strategic thinking, leadership, decision-making and communication. Increasingly, the role of leaders is shifting towards that of an “integrator”, someone who can connect disciplines, align stakeholders and balance priorities such as business performance, digital transformation and sustainability.

In practice, an MBA helps you develop key skills such as:

    • Strategic thinking and decision-making
    • Leadership and stakeholder management
    • Integrating business, technology and sustainability
    • Problem-solving in complex environments
    • Communication across teams and cultures

In the Impact MBA, these skills are developed in an integrated way, preparing you to lead across functions and navigate uncertainty in modern organisations.

Is an MBA better than a specialised Master’s degree?

An MBA is not necessarily better than a specialised Master’s degree, it depends on your career stage and goals. Both serve different purposes. A specialised Master’s degree is typically designed for recent graduates or early-career professionals who want to deepen their knowledge in a specific field, such as finance, marketing or data analytics. It builds technical expertise and prepares you for entry- to mid-level roles. An MBA, on the other hand, is aimed at professionals with work experience. It focuses on broad business understanding, leadership development and strategic decision-making. Rather than specialising, an MBA prepares you for management and leadership roles across functions and industries. In short, a specialised Master’s builds depth in one area, while an MBA develops the skills to lead across multiple business domains.

What is the return on investment of a full-time MBA?

The return on investment of a full-time MBA is often reflected in the opportunity to accelerate or redirect your career within a relatively short period of time. By stepping away from your job, you create space to fully focus on developing new skills, exploring different industries and redefining your professional direction. For participants of the Impact MBA, the return comes from a combination of career progression, leadership development, and expanded international opportunities. The immersive format allows for deep learning, strong peer connections and active career reflection.  Depending on your goals, this can translate into a career switch, a move into a new industry, or a faster transition into management or leadership roles.

Is it better to study an MBA in Europe instead of, for example, the USA?

Whether it is better to study an MBA in Europe or in countries such as the United States of America, Canada, the United Kingdom or Australia depends on your career goals, preferred learning environment and geographic focus. Traditionally, countries like the USA, UK, Canada and Australia have been well-known MBA destinations, offering a wide range of programs and strong global networks. At the same time, many candidates are increasingly exploring MBA programs in Europe, where they can benefit from shorter program durations, international classrooms and close connections to diverse business environments. Studying an MBA in Europe, such as in the Netherlands, offers a globally oriented experience within a compact and internationally connected region. For many professionals, the choice comes down to where they want to build their career, expand their network and gain relevant business exposure.

What is the difference between Full-time MSc in Management and Impact MBA Full-time?

The main difference between the Full-time MSc in Management and the full-time Impact MBA lies in the demographics and level of experience of the students and the learning focus of the program. The MSc in Management is designed for early-career graduates or young professionals with limited work experience. It focuses on building a strong foundation in management, strategy and organizational skills, often as a first step after a bachelor’s degree.

The Impact MBA, by contrast, is intended for professionals with several years of work experience. It builds on prior professional knowledge and focuses on leadership development, strategic decision-making and responsible business impact. Classroom discussions are enriched by participants’ real-world experience. In short, the MSc prepares you for your first management roles, while the Impact MBA helps you grow as an experienced leader.

Is the Impact MBA a full-time, one-year English-taught program in the Netherlands?

The full-time Impact MBA at Nyenrode Business University, with its 14 months duration, is slightly longer than traditional one-year full-time MBA programs. It is designed for professionals who want to fully immerse themselves in business education and leadership development within a compact time frame. The program is campus-based in the Netherlands and attracts an international cohort of participants from diverse professional and cultural backgrounds. All courses, group work and assessments are conducted in English, making the program accessible to international candidates who do not speak Dutch. The full-time format allows participants to step away from daily work commitments and focus completely on personal, academic and professional growth.

What are the visa requirements for non-EU students applying to the Impact MBA?

Non-EU and non-EEA applicants to the Impact MBA Full-time require a Dutch residence permit for study purposes. Nyenrode Business University supports admitted international students throughout the visa application process. Once you accept your offer and meet the academic and financial requirements, Nyenrode initiates the visa application with the Dutch Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND) on your behalf. Guidance is provided on documentation, timelines and next steps. The residence permit allows you to live in the Netherlands for the duration of the full-time MBA. Early application is strongly recommended, as processing times can vary by country.

Can international students work during a full-time MBA in the Netherlands?

Because the Impact MBA is a full-time and intensive program, most participants prioritize their studies and campus engagement. Combining work with the program requires careful time management. The focus of the full-time MBA is on academic immersion, leadership development and career preparation after graduation rather than ongoing employment during the program. However, international students may work part-time during their studies, but specific regulations apply. Non-EU students are allowed to work up to 16 hours per week during the academic year, or full-time during the summer months, provided their employer obtains a work permit.

Are there MBA scholarships available in the Netherlands for international students?

Yes. Nyenrode Business University offers scholarships for international students admitted to the full-time Impact MBA. Scholarships are awarded based on academic background, professional experience, leadership potential and motivation. Scholarships usually provide a partial tuition fee reduction and are limited in number. Applicants are encouraged to apply early, as scholarships are awarded on a rolling basis. In addition to Nyenrode scholarships, international students may explore external funding options or educational loans. Scholarship applications are submitted as part of the admissions process.

Can I apply for the full-time Impact MBA without a GMAT score?

Yes, it is possible to apply for the full-time Impact MBA without a GMAT score. Nyenrode uses a holistic admissions approach, assessing your academic background, professional experience, motivation and leadership potential. In some cases, the admissions committee may request an alternative assessment to demonstrate quantitative or analytical skills (LTP competence test). This ensures all participants are well prepared for the academic level of the program. Whether a GMAT or alternative assessment is required depends on your individual profile and will be discussed during the admissions process.

Is the full-time Impact MBA suitable for a career switch?

Yes. The full-time Impact MBA is particularly suitable for professionals seeking a career switch or career acceleration. The 14-month, immersive format allows participants to step back from their current role and reposition themselves professionally. Through core business courses, leadership development and group projects, participants build transferable skills applicable across industries and functions. Career development activities support reflection on strengths, ambitions and next steps. Unlike part-time or executive MBA formats, the full-time MBA format offers the space to explore new directions without the demands of ongoing employment.

What job opportunities are available after completing an MBA in the Netherlands?

Graduates of a full-time MBA in the Netherlands benefit from a strong international business environment with many multinational organizations, scale-ups and purpose-driven companies. The Impact MBA prepares international students for leadership and management roles across sectors. Non-EU graduates may be eligible for the Dutch Orientation Year (Zoekjaar), allowing them to remain in the Netherlands to seek employment after graduation. Career outcomes depend on prior experience, industry focus and labor market conditions. Nyenrode supports students through career development activities and access to its international network.

What makes the Impact MBA different from a traditional full-time MBA?

The Impact MBA integrates responsible leadership, sustainability and long-term value creation throughout the curriculum. Business fundamentals are combined with ethical decision-making, stakeholder management and societal impact. Leadership development focuses on building strong foundations, self-awareness and responsible decision-making. Sustainability and impact are not treated as separate topics but embedded across courses and projects. This approach prepares graduates to navigate complex global challenges early in their leadership careers.

When should I apply for the September intake of the full-time Impact MBA?

For the September intake, international candidates are advised to apply as early as possible. Early application increases the likelihood of securing a spot in the next class, applying for scholarships and completing visa and housing arrangements in time. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and specific deadlines may apply for scholarships and non-EU applicants. The admissions team can advise you on the most suitable application timeline based on your personal situation.
