In a 1st phase of sustainability, a company may be rocked by scandal. In a 2nd phase, corporations could work to establish sustainable policy by participating in green labels. Sustainability & Systemic Change

The situation

Our world is changing rapidly. Disruptive innovation creates new products and services. Innovations offer existing and new businesses the chance to conquer markets. Through visions on a sustainable world, new sustainable markets emerge. Disruptive innovation theory tells us that rewriting business goals with the sustainable consumer in mind is the main driving force for sustainability. This is what we focus on in Nyenrode's MBA module Sustainability & Systemic Change.

The challenge

Corporate activities shouldn't further increase the pollution of our planet or further deplete our scarce resources. Companies without a sustainability strategy lose their right to exist. Corporate activities that are deemed socially unacceptable form a growing risk to operations. Social or environmental scandals can permanently damage reputations. These days, society demands corporate leadership in solving its problems. Entrepreneurship as a source for good.

The options

In this MBA module, you discover how and when sustainable strategic innovations are viable. Nyenrode offers you scientific models that anchor societal developments to the core of corporate policy. You learn to recognize the different stages of sustainability, so you can make decisive steps at the right time.
In a 1st phase of sustainability, a company may be rocked by scandal. In a 2nd phase, corporations could work to establish sustainable policy by participating in green labels. In a 3rd phase, a business may form alliances with other companies, governmental and/or civil society organizations to establish a common mission. And finally, in a 4thphase, an organization may contribute to anchoring sustainability developments into legislation. This way, sustainability adds an extra dimension to entrepreneurship, creating a new perspective on the future, such as joining a circular economy.
