Dr. Melanie de Ruiter is an associate professor at Nyenrode Business University. She is part of Nyenrode's Faculty Research Center for Strategy, Organization & Leadership. Her research focuses on psychological contracts, leadership, proactive behavior, well-being, and organizational change management. Melanie teaches courses on organizational behavior and human resource management in the full-time and part-time MSc and BScBA program.

Furthermore, she teaches the Thesis Module in the modular MBA program and research methodology in the Executive MBA program. Additionally, Melanie is actively involved in supervising theses and final projects in the full-time and part-time MSc and the executive and modular MBA programs. 

De Ruiter received a Bachelor of Arts (Major: Social Sciences) Cum Laude from University College Roosevelt (International Honors College of Utrecht University). She completed her Master of Science in Management at Nyenrode Business Universiteit. In January 2017, Melanie successfully defended her PhD dissertation entitled ‘Beyond repair? The role of supervisory leadership in the context of psychological contract breach’ at Tilburg University.

International activities

De Ruiter frequently presents her work at national and international conferences. She is actively involved in academic society. She frequently reviews for international peer-reviewed journals and serves on the Editorial Review Board of The Journal of Managerial Psychology.

Her work has been published in international peer-reviewed journals including The International Journal of Human Resource Management and The Journal of Applied Behavioral Science. In 2015, de Ruiter received an outstanding reviewer award from the Organization Development and Change Division of the Academy of Management.
