Biography

“Something that seems effortless must first have been prepared with great care.”
(Loosely based on Rudi Carrell, source: Joost Prinsen)

Maurice Coen MSc. is a lecturer at Nyenrode Business University and affiliated with the Faculty Expertise Center Entrepreneurship, Governance & Stewardship. His work focuses on sustainability and transitions, both in education and research.

Coen explores how organizations contribute to sustainability within their own context and across the interconnected environments, sectors, and markets in which they operate. Investigating these complex dynamics in practice—and translating the insights gained into education and collaboration—is a key driver in his work. He draws energy from engaging with students, colleagues, and practitioners.

He studied Management Consultancy at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University, and combines his role at Nyenrode with his work as an independent consultant. Since 2011, he has been closely involved in several long-term national research programs focused on sustainability. These programs bring together practice partners to experiment, learn, and explore how organizations can contribute to transitions toward a more sustainable world.

At Nyenrode, Coen fully dedicates his teaching and research to advancing knowledge and practice related to sustainability transitions. His mission is to bridge research and practice by developing both scientific insights and practical interventions and tools that support organizations in contributing to a sustainable future.
