Biography
Prof. Dr. Hans van Kranenburg is Professor of Strategic Management at the Center for Strategy, Organization & Leadership. He also works as Professor of Business Administration, specializing in Corporate Strategy, at Radboud University Nijmegen. In this capacity, he has been involved in various activities in recent years. In addition to teaching, research, consulting, and quality assurance (assessing educational and research programs), he has also held various administrative positions, including initiator and director of the Responsible Organization research program. He has also served two terms as chair of the management team in business administration and is still head of the strategy section.
Van Kranenburg has been active internationally for many years in the field of strategic issues facing profit and non-profit organizations. His expertise lies in the area of market and non-market strategic behavior of companies, the evolution of markets and industries, stakeholder management, transition management for the energy sector, sustainability and circularity, alliances and networks, and internationalization issues for organizations. He is also a specialist in the field of media economics and management. In addition, he advises organizations on strategic and competition issues.
In addition to his academic activities, he is a speaker, supervisor, and board member of several foundations.
According to Van Kranenburg, Nyenrode is at the heart of society. By promoting the core values of leadership, entrepreneurship, and stewardship in education, research, and other activities, Nyenrode contributes to the development of responsible leaders and managers in a rapidly changing society, according to Van Kranenburg. He finds it inspiring and rewarding to be able to contribute to this together with colleagues, students, and representatives from the business community, government, and public organizations.
Van Kranenburg is co-developer of the energy transition game Energiek. This game is aimed at companies, students, and the general public. Playing Energiek raises awareness, promotes a positive attitude, and provides insight into the necessity and feasibility of change.
Van Kranenburg's work has been published in scientific journals such as the International Journal of Business Studies, Global Strategy Journal, International Business Review, Research Policy, Journal of Law and Economics, Nonprofit Management & Leadership, and European Journal of Operational Research. He has also written several books, including Organizing the Dutch Energy Transition (2024), Nonmarket Strategic Management (2017), Innovation Policies in the European News Media Industry: A Comparative Study (2017), and Management and Innovation in the Media Industry (2009).
International activities
Van Kranenburg is also affiliated with the Reuters Institute and Green Templeton College at the University of Oxford (United Kingdom). In addition, he has worked at the Media Management & Transformation Center at Jönköping International Business School (Sweden), the University of Navarra (Spain), and the University of Chicago (USA).
