Mr. Dr. Dennis Post (1976) has been appointed as Full Professor of Tax & Technology with a particular focus on the innovation of taxes in ecosystems and the digital economy at Nyenrode Business University, effective July 1, 2025. He will become part of the Nyenrode Center for Corporate Reporting, Finance, and Tax.

Dennis Post is an expert in the rapidly evolving field that lies at the intersection of technology and taxation. This field encompasses not only the use of technology for taxation purposes but also the potential tax implications of the use of technology in society. He has published on topics including the use of generative artificial intelligence in taxation, the possibilities of employing blockchain technology for more robust tax systems, various tax aspects surrounding cryptocurrencies, as well as new digital forms of collaboration.

He obtained his PhD in 2012 from the University of Amsterdam, where he is also affiliated as a research fellow and lecturer. Additionally, he is a partner/tax advisor at EY in Amsterdam, working in the financial sector. Post is also active as a lecturer for the Dutch Association of Tax Advisors (NOB) for the course Trends and Applications in Tax & Technology and is a member of the editorial board of TaxTech, a journal focusing on the implications of digitalization and the use of technology in taxation.

Responsible use of Tax & Technology as a guideline

“Tax & Technology is an interdisciplinary field, where it is essential to be aware of relevant developments across multiple areas and to bring them together. This not only creates opportunities for businesses and government but also raises numerous new questions. For the current and future generation of tax professionals, government officials, as well as executives and supervisors, it is crucial to be knowledgeable about these developments to understand their societal impact,” says Post.

According to Post, technology plays an increasingly important role in taxation. Tax & Technology has become an independent field that is rapidly evolving. This primarily raises questions about the responsible use of technology. That is the guiding principle. At the same time, the rapidly succeeding technological developments demand new insights and leadership. The tax professional of the future simply cannot do without a solid understanding of this new field.

Strengthening Nyenrode’s position

With the appointment of Post, Nyenrode strengthens its position as an authority in the field of Tax & Technology, with a specific focus on enhancing knowledge and innovation of taxes in ecosystems and the digital economy. Prof. Dr. Michael Erkens, director of the Center for Corporate Reporting, Finance & Tax, states: “Dennis has extensive experience in both academia and the business world. He is exceptionally suited to bridge the gap between science and tax practice.” Post will play an important role in the development of the field in the Master of Tax Economics and the Master of Tax Law at Nyenrode. The subject will also be prominently featured in Nyenrode’s executive learning programs.
