In an ever more demanding and complex world, the question 'how can I contribute to better cooperation?' holds increasing value. We are going from an industrial society via the knowledge economy to a transformation economy in which a meaningful existence will be the focus and people solve collective problems together. The mass production of yesteryear makes way for networks that add value to our existence. The UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a first step on the road to global cooperation of businesses, governments and civil society. There is even an SDG that specifically focuses on this; SGD 17: Sustainable development through global partnerships.
Good cooperation isn't a given. Few management teams operate on the principle that cooperation is an exchange of points to make each staff member operate better. We all know the results of 'bad' cooperation. Health issues such as burn-out, stress and depression are on the rise. And another problem: humans are evolutionarily unsuitable to work with over 150 others. With such limitations, how can we still solve global issues?
Leadership is the personal added value to a system. Leaders have the ability to initiate the right collective action at the right time. Instead of 1 leader, this creates a group of cooperating individuals who act: creating shared and sustainable leadership. The person with the final responsibility within the organization is the person that serves this process. Nyenrode was founded on this principle of 'Stewardship' or servant leadership.
The study goals
In our MBA module Cooperation & Leadership, you focus on developing your personal leadership skills based on your professional experience. Academic knowledge is the foundation of simulations and reflection upon your own skills. After completing this course, you will have a solid foundation of knowledge about the many forces that influence behavior within an organization, as well as your own place therein. Personal leadership includes initiation cooperation, not least by creating situations that push desired changes.
What are you going to do?The Cooperation and Leadership module will enable you to understand the forces that influence behavior in organizations and you will learn ways to manage and influence individual and group behavior in organizations. The module consists of 4 blocks:
1. The psychology of cooperation, influence and decision making
2. Working in situations with multiple parties
3. Personal Mastery
4. Personal reflection
In addition four participant learning groups will be organized. The goal of the learning group is to arrive at more in-depth insight into one's own strengths and areas for development.
