Introduction
In the Leadership Essentials program, you will discover how to become an impactful leader who mobilizes others through authenticity bringing out the best in yourself and those around you, both now and in the future.
This program provides the essential foundations for anyone leading a team, managing projects, or holding a coordinating or supervisory role. It is designed for managers with HR responsibilities as well as for informal leaders who want to strengthen their leadership skills.
We explore leadership at multiple levels. You will examine the meaning of leadership as a concept, along with the relevant knowledge and skills it requires. You will reflect on your personal drivers, beliefs, and pitfalls, gaining deeper insights into your leadership and collaboration style. You will also learn more about group dynamics: how to mobilize people in a project, within your team, or across your organization toward a shared goal. How do others perceive you? How do you engage them with your vision? And how can you broaden your behavioral repertoire in doing so?

Who is Leadership Essentials for?
You currently hold a coordinating, supervisory, or leadership role within your organization and want to further develop and strengthen your leadership. You are looking to become more aware of what you do as a leader, why you do it, the impact it has on others, and how to make conscious choices in this regard.
The Leadership Essentials program is intended for professionals who are ready to grow as leaders and to inspire others along the way. Participants are expected to have at least a higher professional education (hbo+) level, a minimum of five years of work experience, and some experience in a coordinating, supervisory, or leadership role (note: this does not have to be a formal management position). You bring an open and positive attitude, are willing to critically reflect on yourself, and are eager to share experiences with and learn from your peers.
Curriculum
What will you do?
The Leadership Essentials program invites you to think, reflect, discuss, experience, and actively work on your leadership style. It is designed to help you immediately translate the knowledge and skills you acquire into your daily professional practice.
Delivered in three modules of two days each, the program consistently brings practice into the classroom and theory into practice.
Themes
Throughout the program, you will work on the following themes (content subject to change):
Module 1: Leadership
Exploring leadership: What forms does leadership take? What is authentic leadership? Which values drive my vision of leadership?
This module builds toward a broader understanding of leadership and leadership rooted in your personal purpose. Key contributions include future-oriented leadership, communicating your story, and the characteristics of authentic leadership.
Module 2: Personal Leadership – Who am I as a leader?
In this module we zoom in further on your leadership and on the psychological development of people. Having gained insight into your purpose and values in Module 1, you will now translate these into your leadership style and apply them in interaction with others.
What drives you? What holds you back? Which skills, beliefs, or attitudes would you like to develop further? You will conclude this module by articulating your leadership intentions within the context of your organization.
Module 3: Group Dynamics and My Role as a Leader
In this module, you will learn to view groups and teams from different perspectives. What makes a team a team?
You will gain insights into systemic and relational dynamics, and explore how to deal with them as a leader. You will practice mobilizing others, reflect on your role within a group, and formulate concrete leadership intentions for the future.
Guided (Peer) Coaching with Real-World Cases
The program includes two coaching sessions in small groups, guided by a professional coach. In these sessions, you and your peers will coach one another using real cases from your own practice. The goal is both to learn from one another and to develop coaching skills that you can apply within your own team.
Who will guide you in the Leadership Essentials program?
During the Leadership Essentials program, you will gain new insights from a team of Nyenrode faculty as well as guest speakers from the business world. Nyenrode’s faculty members often combine their academic expertise with experience in consultancy or other business settings.
