I am a PhD student or Early Career Scholar (e.g., Assistant Professor, Lecturer) based at another university or research institution. Can I join some of your PhD courses?
Our PhD welcomes scholars from other institutions, including PhD students enrolled at other universities as well as early-career scholars (e.g., postdocs and Assistant Professors), to participate in selected courses offered by our PhD School.
Our courses can include, for example, Philosophy of Science, Scientific Integrity Qualitative research, Quantitative Research, Grounded Theory, Structural Equation Modeling (introductory and advanced), Action Research, Case Studies, Systematic Literature Reviews, Ethics in Business & Management Research, NVivo training, among others.
Joining our classes allows you to gain important (research) skills, provides an opportunity to engage with our faculty, allows you to network and interact with our doctoral community, and gain insights into cutting-edge research in business.
Spaces are limited. Interested participants should contact the PhD School (phd@nyenrode.nl) for more details on available courses, application procedures, any prerequisites, and the cost. Interested PhD students and Early Career Scholars from outside the research area of business are also welcome to inquire. A certification of completion will be provided upon successful completion of the course(s).
I completed courses at PhD level at a different institution. Can I receive an exemption for some or all courses?
Requests for exemptions for potential PhD candidates who have completed PhD courses and workshops or a complete PhD program at a different institution are decided upon on a case-by-case basis. The decision depends on factors such as the nature of the courses or workshops taken, the degree of overlap with our courses and workshops, when the courses were completed, and if proof of completion can be provided.
I don’t live in the Netherlands. Can I complete Nyenrode’s part-time PhD from abroad?
We welcome applications to our part-time PhD from potential students who live outside the Netherlands.
Please keep in mind that most of the required courses and workshops need to be attended in-person at our Breukelen campus. Certain elements of the program can be completed virtually, such as some meetings with your supervisory team and (occasionally) some portions of the required courses. However, you will need to meet with your supervisory team at least once a year in-person and many of the courses will need to be completed in-person and on-campus in Breukelen, the Netherlands.
Therefore, you will need to be able and willing to routinely travel to the Netherlands during your PhD journey. The schedule of the courses for the coming academic year will be announced a few months before the start of the academic year in September.
Please note that Nyenrode does not cover travel expenses or housing/hotels fees for any part-time PhD candidates, even those who live outside the Netherlands. You should be able to guarantee that you are able to pay the travel and subsistence costs for regular visits to Nyenrode to follow and complete the required components of the PhD. Also, if applicable, you have to show that you have obtained the relevant visa and other permits to stay and study in the Netherlands.

How does an MSc in Management differ from an MA or MIM in Management?
Why choose a BSc in Business Administration instead of a BA in Business Administration?
Our Bachelor of Science in Business Administration combines strong analytical and quantitative skills with practical business knowledge. Unlike a Bachelor of Arts program, the Bachelor of Science emphasizes data-driven decision-making, finance, management sciences, and more, preparing you for both leadership and specialized roles.
You’ll explore key topics such as organizational dynamics, strategy, academic research, finance, marketing, and personal development, equipping you with the skills to excel in today’s fast-paced business world.
Additionally, the program offers a seamless transition to specialized master’s programs, ensuring your education provides a solid foundation for continued academic and professional growth.
What is the difference between an MSc and an MBA?
The MSc and MBA are both level 7 postgraduate academic qualifications you can pursue following an undergraduate degree. Both provide training and opportunities that develop valuable skills and can give you a significant advantage professionally. The two degrees can appear very similar, but understanding the key ways that they differ can help you decide the best path for you.
What is an MSc?
MSc is an abbreviation for Master of Science. It's a postgraduate degree completed following a bachelor's (or undergraduate) degree. Traditionally, an MSc covered scientific subjects, such as physics, engineering or biology. Today, the MSc covers a range of subjects in the arts, humanities and business-related disciplines, such as finance and human resource management. An MSc is a good option for people who have a clear idea of the sort of work they wish to do and want to gain focused, specialised training in that field.
What is an MBA?
MBA is an acronym for Master of Business Administration. Also a postgraduate programme, the MBA is a relatively new qualification compared to the MSc. The MBA teaches students all the core elements to manage a business, from finance and marketing to strategic and operational management. An MBA is a good option for those attracted to leadership roles and who wish to get a good overall understanding of business administration.

What is a BSc and why is it important?
A BSc, or Bachelor of Science, is an undergraduate bachelor's degree focusing on scientific disciplines. Typically bachelor's degrees in science emphasize quantitative aptitudes in the classroom, so science or mathematics is a significant aspect of a BSc degree. Often graduates of Bachelor of Science programs take up further study after graduation. With a BSc, graduates can access more job opportunities and earn higher salaries than those with lesser qualifications.
Here are some of the benefits of studying a BSc:
- Enhanced understanding of the scientific process
- Higher earning potential
- Technical and practical knowledge of your chosen field
- Transferable skills such as research and analysis
- Industry connections and networking opportunities
- Increased opportunities for further study
- Sense of achievement and fulfillment
- International recognition
Ultimately, earning a Bachelor of Science degree gives students an edge when it comes to succeeding academically and professionally.
The knowledge and practical experience you gain from studying for a BSc will set you apart from your peers and give you a competitive advantage regarding job applications.
