The challenge

The housemaster will play a central role within the organisation. He or she is responsible for complying with the code of conduct in relation to the learning and working environment. Interacting with the students is the main task; however, the tasks also include performing minor maintenance and repair work on the building and the responsibility for setting-up rooms and the opening and closing of the building. A core value of the organisation is personal attention. The tasks relating to this core value include monitoring students and holding them accountable to the code of conduct and the house rules. The housemaster is skilled in dealing with students during behavioural disturbances in a matter consistent with the agreements made and the school's rules. He or she understands the organisation and the working method of the school; The housemaster is skilled in solving problems concerning complaints, disruptions, maintenance, and set-up of rooms and has practically oriented knowledge to deal with devices and their possible applications.

 

Tasks include:

Daily oversight of the behaviour of staff and students and the use of the building.

  • Co-responsible for being approachable and providing services for the students. Serving as a point of contact for students.
  • Calling students to order or alerting the teacher or management team about behavioral issues in accordance with the internal code of conduct.
  • Ensuring that the public areas and offices are clean and tidy and remain so (clean desk policy)
  • Performing simple security activities for the building by maintaining a visible presence for passers-by and by checking the building premises to protect against vandalism and theft.
  • Setting-up lecture rooms including AV/IT devices and making sure the room is ready to use.

The maintenance and repair tasks for the building, grounds, and inventory - taking into account any (technical) maintenance requirements and agreements, include:

  • indicating disturbances and acting on them.
  • fixing simple defects.
  • listening to and recording any complaints of a technical nature.
  • requesting quotations from suppliers in consultation with the portfolio holder.

As we are a small organization (about 20 colleagues), members of the different teams work together daily. We also work closely together with our colleagues in Breukelen.

You have natural authority. You have good command of the English language, and you feel comfortable within an international environment. You have affinity with education and students. Experience with company emergency response or first aid is a pre-requisite, alternatively you are prepared to follow this training. You report to the Manager Operations and work closely together with the other Housemasters, and the Reception team.

  • A gross salary of up to € 2.837,- depending on your work experience, in the case of full-time employment (Scale 5).
  • Fixed 5,1 % end of year bonus
  • Flexible end of year bonus, up to 4,5% (2021 was 2,5%)
