How are applications for university accommodation being handled? (FTMBA)
Same as usual, except for the English proficiency test.
Is the university still accepting applications? Are there any restrictions being placed on international applicants? (FTMBA)
Yes, we now accept applications for the 2023-2024 intake and there are currently no restrictions for international applicants.
How is the university supporting applicants whose visa applications have been delayed? (FTMBA)
Visa applications are not delayed at the moment. We will start Visa applications at the earliest possibility, and we will be flexible where needed.
What advice is the university offering to applicants unable to take an English language test due to centers being closed?
Submit your application without an English Proficiency test. We will assess the level of English during your interview or accept any other sort of proof of English. You might be asked to take an English proficiency test or other English course before the start of the program if there are doubts about the level of English. If needed, we will do two interviews.
How is the university handling applicants whose exams have been canceled? (FTMBA)
We offer the (online)LTP test as a substitute for the GMAT. Applications can be submitted without an English proficiency test and we accept any kind of proof of English at the moment.
How can applicants contact the university regarding their application?
You can contact us via: m.wolters@nyenrode.nl or by phone: +31610215441.
What is the status of planned campus admission open days/tours? If these events are cancelled, are they being replaced in any way (i.e. by online alternatives)?
Most meetings will be organized online. A tour through the university can be arranged by appointment. Online one-to-one sessions are available upon request via program advisor Carola Paulusma: c.paulusma@nyenrode.nl.
Are there any scholarships available for the PhD program?
Nyenrode Business Universiteit does not offer scholarships for part-time PhD candidates at this time. The PhD School also does not currently facilitate any Nuffic NFP scholarships.
I completed several courses at PhD level or a complete PhD program at a different institution. Can I receive an exemption for some or all courses in your program?
Can I complete the PhD program from abroad?
It is not possible to complete the PhD program from abroad.
Certain elements of the program can be completed virtually, such as the yearly progress talk and your participation in small group intervision sessions. In part, meetings with your supervisory team can take place virtually, although you will also need to meet with your supervisory team at least once a year in person.
Courses and workshops that are offered virtually or in a hybrid manner can also be completed from abroad. However, courses and workshops that are only offered live in Breukelen cannot be completed from abroad.
Please keep in mind that Nyenrode does not cover travel expenses or housing fees for (international) part-time PhD candidates. You should be able to guarantee that you are able to pay the travel and subsistence costs for regular visits to Nyenrode to follow and complete the required components of the program. Also, if applicable, you have to show that you have obtained the relevant visa and other permits to stay and study in the Netherlands.
Can I take one of the courses offered in the first phase of the PhD program during the second phase?
It is not possible to miss one of the courses offered in the first phase of the program. The curriculum is organized in such a way that the courses and workshops in the second phase build upon the courses included in the first phase. If you are unable to attend all sessions of the courses in the first phase, you will need to postpone your enrollment to the next academic year.
What costs are not covered by the tuition fee?
The yearly fees do not cover the costs for books and other course material; meals are not included. Some courses take place at Nyenrode on consecutive days. When students reserve a room at our campus hotel or one of the nearby hotel facilities, please keep in mind that these costs are not covered by the yearly fees. Details about our campus hotels and how to book can be found here: https://www.nyenrode.nl/en/information/facility/hotel. The fees also do not cover visits to (international) academic conferences or PhD consortia (i.e., travel costs, housing costs, subsistence costs and conference fees), or visa costs.
Can I still apply if I missed the application deadline?
The application deadline was March 17, 2025 for the 2025/2026 academic year. Did you miss this deadline but it is still at least one month before the start of the PhD at the beginning of September? Please contact the PhD support office via phd@nyenrode.nl to discuss your options. If the PhD is not yet at full capacity, we may be able to accept a late application. However, like all applications, an acceptance relies on aspects such as the full application package, on supervisory capacity, and on whether you are able to take part in the required courses of the first phase of your PhD.
How can I find professors willing and able to supervise my PhD project?
If you have a personal contact with one of our professors or associate professors with promotion rights, you may contact him or her directly to discuss whether (s)he is interested and willing to supervise your PhD project. Please keep in mind that if the professor indicates that (s)he would like to act as your supervisor this does not guarantee acceptance into the PhD.
It is not necessary to connect with a potential supervisor before applying to Nyenrode’s part-time PhD. Potential supervisors are part of the selection committee and therefore if you are invited for a selection interview, you will have the opportunity to meet with (a) potential supervisor(s).
How many candidates do you accept each year?
We admit up to 15 part-time PhD students annually. This ensures each candidate receives personalized support and dedicated guidance throughout their research journey.
Where can I receive mail?
Do you have a floor plan of my accomodation?
Can I paint or wallpaper my rental housing?
What color is my interior?
Can I place a small kitchen or hot plate in my accommodation?
